MY SKIN JUST DOESN’T LOOK GOOD, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Once people find out I'm a makeup artist — the biggest question is: what are the best makeup brands for covering skin imperfections?
ILLUMINATE, NOT DEFINE!
Unfortunately, there's no makeup in the world that will totally cover all blemishes, but there's makeup that will correct and conceal imperfections in a way that makes your skin look more flawless. Makeup is meant to enhance your beauty, not create a New You. To me, I’d rather promote Less is More, than try to sell you a gimmick. You are already beautiful! And if you're looking to makeup to cover imperfections, you may just need guidance on how to learn more about your skin.
IF I’M PAINTING A PICTURE WHO CARES WHAT THE CANVAS LOOKS LIKE?
Skin care is extremely important, if not the most, important part of your makeup routine. If you have a good canvas, then your painting will look amazing — even if it is the most simple one. Here are my four skin health tip that I always recommend to clients.
- Always remove your makeup. No matter what happens: if you get home late. . . if you had the worst day of your life. . .if you feel exhausted, PLEASE remove your makeup. Your pores work hard to release toxins when you're asleep, so if you're sleeping with makeup on, your pores will get clogged. Do you ever notice blackheads or pimples appearing overnight?! You may notice the appearance of wrinkles, spots, or discoloration too. The skin can also start to feel very dry or extremely oily from neglecting to remove your makeup.
- Let your skin breathe for a day. Once in a while, take a full day to enjoy and pamper your skin. One of the best ways to do this is to rummage in the kitchen for your favorite natural ingredients to build the best hydrating face mask. PRODUCT HACK: My favorite thing to mix with nutritional foods for my face mask is the Youth toner that acts as a gel carrier for essential oils. I love to mix uplifting aromatherapy essential oil with this toner and rub on my temples and third eye. Not only is this trick incredibly uplifting, but the toner asks fast to balance the PH levels of my face. I use it as much as possible - up to three times a day, because who wants acidic skin! Your skin needs a break from makeup once in a while to restore and heal from all the products and chemicals we put on it, so make sure you give your skin that well-deserved break!
- Moisturize at all times. Your skin is an organ, and like any other organ, it requires care. Make sure you hydrate your skin at all times, from head to toe. Your skin also requires 1/3 of everything you eat. What you’re eating plays a huge role in how your skin looks and feels. PRODUCT HACK: Since we are talking about your face, make sure you use my favorite, RDKL’s Revive moisturizer before and after makeup as it provides active botanicals and ‘skin food’ to your cells the natural way. Drinking a lot of water and eating foods high in vitamins, iron and water will keep you looking young, with minimal effort.
- There are a few products you need to always have in your routine, especially if you are an everyday makeup wearer: facial cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizer. In addition, a natural facial oil such as Glow is my go-to for mixing with my face wash to gently remove makeup effectively. It retains moisture and the integrity of the skin and is a perfect option for clients with compromised skin that wear heavy makeup daily in the beauty industry. All natural products are the only option for me and they should be for you too. I always make sure my routine is silicone, chemical and filler free and I pride myself on choosing and promoting good products that are cruelty-free and hassle free. I want to always make sure I can recommend affordable high-quality products to my clients and it’s always my goal to help them achieve optimal skin health in between visits to my makeup chair.
